The Municipality of Minitonas-Bowsman (Municipality) is seeking applications from energetic, highly motivated individuals to become part of our growing team!
The Municipality is a competitive-wage employer providing a full range of municipal government services to 1,587 residents (2021 Population Census) located in two communities and a rural area, with a combined approximate area of 1,199 square kilometers.

What you will do:
- Operate heavy equipment such as grader, excavator, semi tractor/trailer, gravel trailer, snowplow, tandem truck, backhoe, bulldozer, scraper, skid-steer, sanding truck/snowplow, tractor mower, track hoe, front-end loader, mulcher, packer, and other equipment typical of a Public Works department in a careful and efficient manner.
- Excavating work for road and other maintenance, repair and construction as required.
- Cleaning of culverts and drains as required.
- Perform regular service and maintenance of vehicles and equipment and complete service logs.
- Participate in all safety training, orientations, meetings and ongoing training.
- May perform the duties of the Equipment Operator 1.
- Assist in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment and report necessary repairs
- Ensure all standards of Workplace Safety and Health are followed.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Complete records relative to the equipment used and work performed.
- Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.
- Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored.
- Clean-up of the yard, shop buildings and equipment as required.
- Work in compliance with the provisions of all provincial regulations and Municipal policies.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
What you will bring to the team:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Ability to operate a semi-trailer/trailer unit with gravel trailer and must maintain a valid Manitoba Class 1 Drivers License with air endorsement and provide proof of an acceptable driver abstract.
- A criminal record check is required.
- Standard First Aid and WHMIS training.
- High skill level in equipment operation gained through a minimum of two (2) years of similar experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
- Punctual, energetic and self-motivated individual.
- Able to work unsupervised.
- A practical knowledge of the operation, care, and maintenance of small tools/equipment, hand tools, small equipment, safe work practices under Occupational Health and Safety, and basic mechanics is desirable.
- Knowledge of the municipality would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of basic care and maintenance of vehicles and equipment would be an asset.
Accountability/Responsibility:
- Under the general direction of the Public Works Foreman, incumbents will be expected to perform their duties to a high standard and follow all policies and procedures of the Municipality.
Unique Position Requirements
- The position may involve working evenings and weekend shifts.
- Rotational on-call shifts over weekends and stat holidays as required.
- Ability to work independently and reliably.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities (ability to lift/carry heavy loads -50+lbs) such as extensive walking, carrying, climbing, and lifting objects in all season weather conditions.
- Ability to receive and comprehend instructions; work in a team environment; interact positively with supervisors, other staff, and the public.
- Exposure to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements.
- Good knowledge of the road system in the municipality.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and with the public as required.
Equipment Usage
- Cellular phone, two-way radio, grader, excavator, semi tractor/trailer, gravel trailer, snowplow, tandem truck, backhoe, bulldozer, scraper, skid-steer, sanding truck/snowplow, tractor mower, track hoe, front-end loader, mulcher, packer, and other equipment typical of a Public Works department.
